our new EP officially came out today. very exciting. hope you at least check it out.

we leave for europe next week. also exciting. i'll add the finalized dates at the end of this entry.

as soon as we get back we'll be having our record release show in pawtucket, RI at machines with magnets. MWM is where we recorded the record so we're stoked to have the release party in the same spot. our friends in the body, villainer and like wolves will be celebrating with us.

the very next day we'll be heading to upstate ny to say goodbye to our friends in another breath. they're wussing out and breaking up which is lame but at least we'll get to play together one more time.

This weekend has come and gone. Glad we had the chance to be apart of the Dom Memorial show, thanks once again. We were psyched on a band that opened up called the Golden Girls, total Dinosaur Jr. and Nirvana worship. Loved it, we give them our seal of approval. I saw some comments on a message board about our band I thought were funny, The gist of it was man," kids used to love SC what happened or SC reaction was non existant what happened?" Now onto the Sunday show it was really sweet. A Brave Young was absolutely amazing, check them out on their month long tour that is right now. One of the best live bands going these days.

Now moving forward, which is always a tough thing for all of us sometimes. Our van is having more hiccups, we are working on getting that fixed before our next couple of shows in NYC and Boston next month. We get to play these Two shows with our very good friends Like Wolves, if you don't know this band you really should start paying attention. They are finishing up recording their first LP for Hex Records right now.

Just Like the Previous post states we have Two shows coming up this weekend. Im gearing up for work right now and then after work around midnight, I'll be getting into my car and driving the six hours to Providence, RI for these shows. In my heard I'm already thinking about my playlist for the drive. Currently I think I'll start off the drive with Rebirth Brass Band , a New Oreleans institution, some really amazing music when all is said and done. For some reason I always finding myself listening to Polar Bear Club's Chasing Hamburg and Botch's We Are The Romans on my drives along the 90. I know most of you don't really give a shit one way or the other, but these are the things that pop into my head when getting in the car for several hours, the absolute best is having a companion along for the ride and just talking the whole time. Time flies so much faster when that happens.

We will be playing a new song out this weekend, We are pretty excited about that. Hope to see some of you at the shows, if not see you next month maybe.

So we are going to be playing a couple of show's in the northeast in a couple week's. One of them is a memorial show for Dominic Mallary. Last Light's played the first show I played with Soul Control, so we are honored to be apart of this show. Let's celebrate a true vibrant and honest life and hope that we can learn something from such a person.

The next day(Feb. 20th) we are playing a show in Pawtucket,RI @ Machines With Magnets w/ The Body, A Brave Young(giant), Deleted Arrows, Mountain Man, and Mouth Of Flowers.

So that about sums it up for now, We are getting some weekends that are being planned and coming together nicely. We will be playing Generic Insight Fest II in March. We will also be playing a show the day after in Boston. Both of those shows are with Hex Records newest sensation Like Wolves. We fully endorse everything to do with both of those institutions. More news on those events in the upcoming weeks.

I've been listening to a lot of Warzone and Side By Side lately, I think I can honestly say that Side By Side is my favorite NYHC band. This is just my personal opinion because I know other members of the band might have other personal favorites, but it's just something on my mind. Rotting Out has been in the studio recently, I'm excited to see what those dudes have been writing.

The New Year is upon us. We are in the process of writing new songs, which we are really excited about. Had our first practice as a full band last week and made some headway on the new songs we are writing. The excitement in our world is high. Planning some Weekend trips as well so look out for those on our shows page. A Europeon Vacation was cancelled due to some booking agent fall out thing, but we are already planning another one with a band called Ritual, if you dig Unbroken and Rise and Fall I think you would really dig this band. Until then go listen to the new Capital record.

Dear UK/EU,

Although we hadn't officially announced anything yet it was pretty much common knowledge that we were going to be doing a short UK/EU tour in late February with our good friend and amazing musician Aaron (Attica! Attica!). This tour is now CANCELED. We are very upset about this outcome but it is out of our hands. The agency that was bringing us over has apparently folded and all of their tours are canceled. I know there are still some Facebook events out there that say we are still playing but we definitely are not so we're sorry for any confusion.

Sometimes, when you deliver bad news you're able to soften the blow with some good news. Now is one of those times. We will 100% be doing an extensive UK/EU tour this summer with RITUAL. In closing, we are bummed and sorry we won't be playing for you this winter BUT we're excited and grateful that we will be playing for even more of you this summer. I just wanted to give those people that keep tab's on this blog a solid hello and thank you. I'm going to try and start updating it a little more regularly with SC related news and information along with some other thing's that may or may not interest you. I want to thank anyone and everyone that helped us out and supported us on our trip down to the Fest in Gainesville, we all had a really fun time playing and hanging out with so many of our old and new friends. So thanks for all of you!

With that said, we are currently writing some new song's. We are excited about writing some new songs and seeing where they will take us. We don't have any plans nailed down for recording or anything like that, but it's on our minds, we want to have a comfortable selection of songs to choose from this time around. I'll obviously update more about this when we have more to offer you.

On a music related note, I have recently discovered a band by the name of Black Angels, the new record Phosphene Dream is really killer and it honestly makes me excited about music. If your into psych influenced rock feel free to check those guys out. I have also had Rvivr's Dirty Water's ep on repeat. These two bands have been really making me excited about music again. After a conversation with some friends about what I've been listening to I realized it was very much what I've been listening to for the past 10 years. So I went out and bought some new records, by bands I haven't heard and I'm really happy.

Dec. 4th we play Ithaca, NY , that's it for shows right now. Come hangout if you like cold weather and possibly snow, Ithaca is a rad town, I'm excited to drink Gimme! coffee and eat some short stop. Oh yeah Like Wolves, Bridge and Tunnel and Young Widows are playing too.

also, we're not playing the effort show on july 9th. we are banned from anchors up because ryan said on his personal facebook that he didn't think a show happening there was a good show. then eric said haha. then we were told we're elitist assholes and that we're banned from ever playing there. that is the whole story, take from it what you will.

go see the effort anyway, they're a hardworking band doing good things and you should go to all their shows and buy their new record.

we just toured with like wolves, another breath and the menzingers over the past month. they are all great bands/people and you should check them out if you haven't yet. the menzingers will probably become the biggest band in the world and rework our entire society ala the wyld stallyns so get in on the ground floor.

Soul Control at Burning Fight and an Update

this past weekend we were part of the best show to happen in the past decade, the burning fight book release show. thanks again to jim and caitlyn for having us and to brian peterson for writing a fantastic book about the best timeframe in hardcore's existence.

quick update:

we've been in the studio for 2 days so far and things are progressing well. the album will be anywhere from 10-12 tracks. we're also recording a cover for the b-side of the single that will precede the album.

we're doing a short 10 day tour with rotting out (ca) and backtrack (ny) june 18-28th, dates and cities are on the myspace.

we have 2 shows this month, we're playing anchors up in haverhill with the effort and near the end of the month we'll be a part of the final VERSE show at as220 in providence. be at these shows. be EARLY at the verse show.

Soul Control signs with Bridge 9

"Bridge Nine recently went through a rough breakup. And with the suggestion from our friends, we got out of the house again. But it was tough at first. We just didn’t want to get hurt again.

But, eventually we got lonely without a band from Rhode Island on the roster, so we up and signed Soul Control. Don't worry. It's not a rebound. We can't be scared of commitment, even if everyone else in Rhode Island seems to be these days. We have to learn to love and trust again. Even if it's with the roommate of our ex.

Soul Control garnered quite the reputation from bold statements made in Revolver Magazine such as being happy not releasing a full-length and just releasing EPs and touring for the remainder of the band's career. Well, surprise surprise, Soul Control is releasing their debut full-length later this year. Hypocrites.

Formed in 2005, Soul Control has been a band on an EP and touring spree over the last year. Switching vocalists is a challenging situation for any band to endure, but Soul Control is one band that emerged from a change of frontman stronger and better than before. With a sound that started out as more straight forward mid-90's influenced hardcore, the quartet has emerged with a noisier, looser influence from Amrep bands like early Helmet and Jesus Lizard while still staying rooted in their hardcore roots. As guitarist, and grandiose statement giver guy Jim Connolly stated, “We didn't just want to write hardcore songs with this part here and that part there-we wanted to write great songs and we had a change and a chance to re-explore that. With Rory, it felt natural and the change in how we wrote happened quickly.”

Soul Control soon found itself up against some challenges. Excited to create new music with a new vocalist, SC recorded four new songs with Van Grol, but the band found itself with no label to commit to. Unfazed, Soul Control released four one-song EPs on four labels at the same time and hit the road. That road included a seven-week US tour as well as Central America. Connolly continued, "After being on Rivalry, we weren’t really sure what would come next. Kyle gave us a chance when no one else would, but we didn’t really know where to go from there. We had this idea and we weren't sure how our idea would be perceived but all of the labels are on their second or third pressings so I think we can say it worked. And we got press coverage and attention we weren't getting before and it enabled us to work with Bridge Nine, so it all came together.”

Soul Control will be on tour in April with 108 and at Chicago's Burning Fight book release show with Disembodied, Unbroken and Outspoken HERE before entering the studio with production guru Jay Maas in May (for more than one day this time).

Provided they don’t break up by next May, they will be on tour all the time, anywhere and everywhere they can."

So yea, that happened. Writing has been underway since we got home from tour, we're hoping to have a lot of material to record in May. Head to the Myspace and come check out those shows with 108 and I Rise. We'll be on tour a lot this year and will hopefully be hitting as many places as possible. As of now we can confirm that we'll playing on at least 3 continents.

Post-Winter Tour Update

Long time no blog.

We just finished a 7 week tour of the united states which was more fun than we thought it was going to be. 7 weeks seemed daunting at first but with most of the shows being great and meeting lots of awesome people all over the country it actually went by faster than we thought it would. I think. Maybe I'm wrong and we were actually gone 7 years. In all seriousness, thanks to everyone who booked a show, gave us a place to crash, gave us food or drinks and especially to all those that came out to the shows. We can't wait to do it again, many many times.

Special thanks to the bands we spent significant time with at various points: I Rise, Like Wolves, Lie and Wait and Rotting Out. Partying with you dudes was awesome. We also got to play with some other awesome bands that everyone should be sure to check out: Alarmed, ON, Dead Mechanical, Ceremony, I Resign, Not Sorry, No Mans Slave, Attica! Attica!, Unrestrained and a ton more I'm probably forgetting.

The Four Singles series all sold out at various points on the tour, all four labels are doing represses, so you will still be able to get them for a bit. Triple B already has 2nd press up for sale, I believe Dead But Dreaming has them as well. 2nd presses from Copper Lung and TDB coming soon.

We had been mentioning for a bit that in March we'd be touring with Seattle's ON, and while that will still be happening at some point, it won't be happening in March. Our next tour starts on April 24th and is with our friends 108 and I Rise. The dates are all over the internet, be at these shows, they will all be awesome. The final show of that tour is the Burning Fight Release show which will we be one crazy weekend. Dates with us and Wait in Vain had starting popping up for a tour after Burning Fight, but we have dropped off that tour. Wait in Vain are awesome dudes, and we'll def be doing things with them in the future. We have a really good reason for canceling that tour which we'll be announcing soon I believe.

So all is well in SC land, we're going to lock ourselves in our practice space for a bit. We have a few one off shows coming up, check out the myspace for the info and come hang out.

Soul Control 08 Wrap Up Blog

So, we just got back from our first trip to Central America. We played in Costa Rica, El Salvador (twice) and Guatemala (twice). The shows were the best we've ever played and the scene there is unlike any other. We met some of the greatest people on earth from Guido and all the Costa Rican kids to Rafael, Pedro, Jorge, Louis and all the El Salvador Crew to Gato, Roi, Diego and all of the 502 Crew in Guatemala (which we dubbed the "Last Crucial Place on Earth) I wish we could drop all your names but you know who you are, thank you so much to all of you. Here's the first of many videos that will eventually be online from the trip, we're also editing all of our footage as well. These are the first 2 songs we played at our first Guatemalan show:

Next Up:

Starting the day after xmas we leave for a 50 date us tour. Go to our myspace and check out the dates. This was entirely self booked and we are working with some great kids in a lot of cities, so help us out and spread the word if we're coming to your town. Hit messageboards, print flyers, anything. Email us if you want promo posters or anything. Theres a few holes, those should be finalized in the coming days, there's a large chunk missing around the Seattle date, those are being booked and we have 5-6 nw shows total.

In March we'll be doing a 2 week east of the Mississppi tour with our friends "ON" from Seattle. I'll be booking that over the next few weeks, get in touch if you want us to come to your city.

In April we'll be doing another 2 weekish tour with a certain band we can't announce right now. The tour will end with both our bands playing the Burning Fight Book Release show in Chicago with Unbroken, Disembodied, Trial, Reach The Sky, Blacklisted, Have Heart, Bane, Split Lip and many more. Side note, I almost threw up when we were asked to play that show. After the Burning Fight show we'll probably stay out on tour another 2-3 weeks and hit the parts of the country we miss on the winter tour.

In the meantime we'll be writing and recording at random times and we'll probably release a few more ep's on a few more labels. In the summer we're probably going back to Europe and at some point we'll be back in Central America. Basically 2009 we will be touring and writing non stop. Maybe we'll even secretly drop that LP we've been promising everyone for a year and a half...you never know.

The Four Singles Series is going into a 2nd press on two of the labels already, and the other two will be sold out soon. The response to these singles has been crazy, thanks so much. If you haven't checked them out yet, read the blog post before this one and order em up.

The four singles project is off to the presses. The labels should be announcing preorder details soon, we'll post the info here as well. Also, at the end of november we will be touring central america. We'll be playing shows in costa rica, nicaragua, honduras, el salvador and guatemala. Dates and info soon, we're very excited. Expect 1, if not 2, new ep's by years end as well as a lengthy us tour after xmas where we'll be playing a lot of places in the country we haven't before. Soul Control to Release Four 7" Project

Soul Control will be heading into The Getaway Group with Jay Maas on July 16th to record 4 brand new songs. Each song will be released on a 1song/1sided 7", each on a different label. The covers of all 4 records will come together to form one larger image. The following labels will be releasing one 7" each and will be handling their own pre-orders/orders:

We will be doing some touring in support of the 7" Project starting in August into September. Dates/Info will be available when we have it. Unfortunately, due to the ever popular (unpopular) finacial woes, we were forced to cancel our European Tour which was supposed to happen in August. We'll do what we can to try and make it back overseas this year. We'll use the time wisely and will be doing a lot more touring in the US and we'll write and record the first proper full length.

It's fun again. Lie Wait are the best dudes, Texas is one of the best states to play and hang out in. If you go to Houston make sure you hang with the On My Side dudes, they rule. Also, check out this new band Power Trip from Dallas. We got to see their 3rd show ever and it was straight up awesome. Find em on the internet, get into it. Basically get into Texas. We're already getting stoked to come back here.

Soul Control Update 05/02/08

On April 2nd 2008 Matt Amore informed us he was quitting Soul Control. His reasons are personal and we will not go into detail here, that is up to him explain publicly if he so desires. There were a lot of mixed emotions to say the least and we've all handled it differently as individuals. The one thing we will express on Matt's behalf is that it was his wish that Soul Control continued. After about 2 weeks of serious thought, serious talk and serious emotion, the three remaining members agreed that we did want to continue. While it is Matt's time to depart, it is not Soul Control's time to stop. With an entire new album written musically and 3 tours booked for this summer, we are not ready to just "throw it all away." So we're not going to. As a band and as friends we wish Matt the best in life and we know he wishes the same for us. We know this because we are friends and will remain so.

That all being said, after an emotional month, we are a complete band again. Rory VanGrol is now an official member of Soul Control. Some of you may know Rory from his work with the bands How We Are and Achilles. After hanging with him and practicing with him, the choice was a swift one. Things are already moving quickly and you'll be hearing things soon.

Our next show will be on June 1st 2008 in Providence, details forthcoming. All tourdates on the myspace are solid and dates/cities for our 2nd European tour will be announced soon. It will be 2-3 weeks in August with Powered Record's own Common Cause. Recording will now take place this summer and our lp will be released in the fall. Plenty of touring will be done to promote this record and we hope to see even more of the world than we have thus far. Our first year was crazy, We have a feeling the 2nd will be even crazier.

UPDATE 5/7/08: A Statement from Matt

"At the risk of sounding redundant, I will keep this short. The past few months have been really crazy, and really excellent, for me. After returning home from the SC European tour in January, I had gotten accepted to grad school. After starting that, I not only moved, but also had gotten a promotion at work (at a place I really love). In the end, even though Soul Control is THE band I always wanted to do, all of these other things are all things I also REALLY wanted to do. Unfortunatly they can't all happen at the same time. A decision had to be made, but I didn't feel it was time for Soul Control to end. I really wish the other guys (a few of my best friends) the best of luck and give them my complete blessing with PUSHing forward. I'm sure I could go on and on, but everyone who knows me personally knows how I feel. The past year and a half has been a blast. Thanks for listening, and most of all, thanks for thinking.
